WHO

The Fall Step-Off is a tremendous opportunity for students in grades 5-12 interested in developing new skills that will help them in their band career. This program is ideal for current Drum Majors who need assistance with building or refining flourishing routines, Conductors who need mentorship in score study and execution, current and aspiring Student Leaders seeking ways to improve their musicality and leadership skills, and Student Leaders who want to prep for the 2025 SAML Competitive Season. We welcome all students involved in the marching and music arts!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to hold a current leadership position in my band to attend?

We believe true leaders are those who value improving themselves so that they may better the world around them. Titles can help with that but are not evidence of a leader. SAML’s Fall Step-Off is designed for studnets (with or without a current position) seeking ways to learn and improve.

Will lunch be provided?

Yes! Registrations include lunch.

What should I bring?

All participants should bring water, something to take notes with, sunscreen, and a hat (optional).

Flourishers must bring their mace or baton and whistle.

Conductors should bring a copy of a music score they’d like to work on (not mandatory) and a conducting baton (if applicable).
