Margarett Paulin Memorial Trophy

The Margarett Paulin Memorial trophy is annually awarded to the highest ranking Contemporary or Avant-Garde drum major of the season. The award was donated in 2023 by Aaron Sherer in honor of his great-grandmother, Margarett Mary Paulin. Margarett was a beloved member of her community in Riverside, CA. She worked as the Secretary to the Principal of Polytechnic High School where many students regarded her as the ‘real guidance counselor’. Margarett lived a week shy of 96 years and had a deep appreciation of the musical arts. She traveled playing organ for over half a century and would always find time to play sing-along tunes with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The recipient of this award highlights not only their creativity and artistry, but their consistency and tenacity as demonstrated in Aaron’s career as a drum major as well as a value of the Paulin-Alves family.
